| The states most popular hill resort, is a slice of England 2134 meters above sea level. surrounded by tea gatrdens growing the prized leaf known as Darjeeling, the little town faces some of the himalayas higest peaks Darjeeling is an abrupt variation from the lowlands of west bengal. Buddhism, being a major faith here Darjeeling and the nearby town of Kalimpong have, between them, serval Buddhist monaseries, chiefly of the yellow Hat Sect. Darjeeling's best gift to its' visitors is the dawn of a new day. The mountains awaken first with a tentative peeking of the sun. A steep ride, five kilometers from Ghoom, or an invigorating walk up a steep incline, leads sun worshippers to Tiger Hill. The air is chilly with darkness and damp. To the east, a dull orange sun emerged painting the sky with brilliant strokes of magenta, gold, orange and fuchsia. The snow capped Everest, Kabru, Kanchenjunga, Jannu and other peaks slowly emerge from slumber to start a new day. The sun worshippers gasp at the magnificent sight. |


| Ghoom: Ghoom is one of the major landmarks in Darjeeling. The renowned Yiga Choeling Monastery dominates the hillock. While visiting the monastery you must check out the images of Maitreya Buddha. Then there are the ancient palm leaf and paper manuscripts in Tibetan script too, of much interest to the historians.
Botanical Gardens: For the botanist, an animal and nature lover Darjeeling offers several Tourist places of interest. At the Lloyd Botanical garden all tourists may enjoy the captivating collection of alpine flora and orchids. This place is near the taxi stand. The gardens also has a green house. |
Natural History Museum: A great place to be at, for all those who have great interest in knowing about the history.The museum has a collection of over 4300 specimen . Established in 1903, this natural history museum packs in its folds a rich collection of fauna found in the Himalayas and in Bengal. Among the attractions are included the estuarine crocodiles. This unique museum also has a good collection of butterflies. The mineral forms of various stones are displayed in a very attractive manner in the museum. Rangeet Valley Passenger Ropeway: Popularly known as the ropeway, it is situated at North Point. It is the oldest passenger ropeway and connects Darjeeling with Singla Bazaar at the bottom of the valley. For reservation of ropeway seats please contact officer in-charge, Darjeeling Rangeet Valley Ropeway Station, North Point, Darjeeling. Regular share taxi service is available from Market Motor and Taxi Stand is to the Ropeway Station. Tiger Hill: It is situated at an altitude of about 2590 meter and gives a magnificent view of the sunrise over the Kanchanjunga hills. his spot has earned international fame for the magnificent view of the sunrise over "Kanchenjunga" and the great Eastern Himalayan Mountains. Even Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, is visible from here. |

| Kurseong: Kurseong is mid-way between Siliguri and Darjeeling. The way from Darjeeling to Kurseong is generally open through out the year. So, the toy train is not coming to Siliguri then one can come up to Kurseong. This place is equally beautiful and is full of natural splendour.
Kalimpong:This city is located near Darjeeling at an altitude of about 1250 m and has many places of tourist attractions like Kalibari, Kalimpong market, Gouripur House, Golf Course, Pedong Monastery, and Rishyap. Happy Valley Estate:We all start our day with tea we and we should know how the tea is processed. Here we can watch the tea from the gardens being processed. One can spent a few hours here. Entry is allowed only for those persons who have permission from any officer of the estate. |

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute: The institute was established in 1954 by the then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in the wake of the conquest of Everest. Tenzing Norgay was its first Director and Advisor till his demise. The institute runs courses for training mountaineers as well as has the very good collection of mountaineering equipments which have been used in various mountaineering expeditions and other wise. Specimens of Himalayan flora and fauna are also kept here. The record of attempts made to conquer Mt. Everest has been kept in the Mt.Everest Museum.
Adventure Sports: Darjeeling was the first hill region in India where Dr. Hooker first conducted organized trekking in the 1840s. The breathtaking panoramic views of Everest and Kanchenjunga have been alluring thousands of nature lovers from different parts of the world since then. Treks in this region are organized through both high and low altitude areas. The best time of the year to undertake this region is April-May and October-November. It is advisable to carry one's own provisions. Trekking equipment can be hired at nominal charges from the Youth Hostel, as well as some travel agencies. |
