Asana: The beauty of each asana is not just in the form but in the attitude. Asanas are a first step to yoga. Asanas refer to the physical postures adopted in yoga where the body assumes a position most conductive to balance. Yoga asanas penetrate every single cell and tissue, making the whole body alive  and tingling. Asanas  align the body, improve postures, build stamina, concentration, develop strength, balance, dynamism. Through asana practice you can overcome feelings of lethargy and lack of motivation. They refresh the body and mind removing tension.

 

Asanas increase blood circulation, the more the blood circulates the more the blood gets purified. The lymphatic system gets activated consequently enhancing one's immune system. All the body systems get balanced and strenthened. Regular practise of a balanced asana program tailored to individual needs is recommended and essential for maximum benefits.

 

Pranayama: The rhythm of your breath determines the state of your being. Breath is basic to life. The breath links the body, mind, and energy. "PRANA" means vital energy, life force. "AYAMA" means extension, expension, length, regulation, control. The medium of prana is the breath. Pranayama is an art and a technique to control the intake and outflow  of breath and in the process expand the vital energy. Therefore correct breathing and awareness of breath are the pre-requisites to the practice of pranayama.

Mudras and Bandhas: Mudras can be defined as psychic gestures that redirect prana. This gesture could be of the hand, of the head or of the entire body. The body expresses a sentiment by adopting a particular posture. That posture or gesture that represents a particular state of mind is a mudra.

 

Bandhas can be defined as energy locks. Bandhas are often considered to be a part of mudras. They are practices wher energy is locked, generated and released. Mudras and Bandhas are combined with pranayama to create a very powerful yogic practice. They are of great significance in hatha yoga.

 

Meditation: Meditation is a technique for mind relaxation, mind rejuvenation and mind management. In order to be able to meditate one has to be able to concentrate; and in order to concentrate one has to be able to relax. Yoga says only a relaxed mind can be a concentrated mind, and only a concentrated mind can be a meditative mind. So, this process where we sit down, close our eyes and go into the meditative state is not actually meditation. First we have to learn how to relax, then we have to learn how to concentrate, to focus the mind, and after that we can move into the state of meditation. So the key here is learning how to relax.
